A damaged passport, even if the damage is minor, can cause issues while travelling. If your passport is damaged, for example, if it is torn or has ink or other stains, it will be considered damaged. In such instances, you must apply for a new passport under the 'Reissue' category, stating that your passport is damaged.

To reissue a lost passport, applicants must provide some additional documents.

Lost Passport If your passport is lost or stolen, you must apply for its reissue or renewal. First, the applicant must prepare an affidavit from the court and also file an FIR (First Information Report) at the police station where the passport was lost. Police will mention the GD Number (General Diary) number in the report; without this, the FIR is not considered valid for passport purposes. Passport renewal can be done online from the Passport Seva Portal. 

Emergency Certificate (EC) An Emergency Certificate (EC) is a travel document issued when an Indian national's passport is lost, stolen, damaged, or when they are being deported. This document is mainly issued only for return to India under special circumstances. An Emergency Certificate (EC) is issued by the Indian Consulate. Indians working in Indian or other MNCs abroad can also obtain this Emergency Certificate (EC) from the Indian Embassy in case of an emergency.

Generally, an Indian Passport can be applied under the Normal/Tatkal scheme. However, some conditions determine eligibility under this scheme. On the day of your appointment, visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) with all the required documents. You can renew your passport under either the General or Tatkaal category.

Regional Passport Office (RPO) RPO in Passport is a government office that handles all passport related work for the citizens of a specific region. This office solves all types of passport related problems or complaints and resolves the problems and complaints of the citizens from time to time. They are responsible for functions like issuing passports, renewing existing passports, police verification and checking personal details.

Passport form is filled online. Application has to be made by visiting the official website of passport, Passport Seva . On applying for passport online, first of all, registration is done for passport. At the time of  registration ,you have to select the RPO of your state. At that time, you should carefully select the RPO of your state because if you select the wrong RPO, then you have to choose the passport office of the same state.

E-Passport An E-Passport, also known as a biometric passport, is an electronic passport that has a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip and an antenna embedded inside the passport. It contains the passport holder's personal details and biometric information and securely stores the applicant's biometric data. E-Passports can be identified by a small additional gold coloured symbol printed on the bottom page of the outer cover of the passport.
