Passport Surrender Application

A passport surrender request can be made online from the Passport Seva Portal. However, in certain cases (for example, Diplomatic or Official Passport), it can be requested directly from the Passport Seva. The Regional Passport Office issues applicants a surrender certificate upon such a request.

Surrender Certificate

A Passport Surrender Certificate is an official document primarily issued to applicants who have renounced Indian Citizenship and obtained citizenship of another country. To get this certificate, applicants are required to apply online.

Apart from such cases, other applicants may also apply for a Passport Surrender Certificate.

Why is a Surrender Certificate Required?

Since dual citizenship is not permitted in India, a person who obtains the citizenship of another country must renounce their Indian Citizenship. As a part of this process, the person is required to surrender their Indian passport.
