If the parents’ passports do not contain each other’s names, can the child’s passport still be issued?

Updated:

If the names of both parents are not mentioned in their respective passports, it is still possible for them to get a passport for their minor child. However, certain guidelines must be followed when applying for a minor's passport.

✅ Rule: If the names of the mother and father are not mentioned in each other's passports

  • According to the passport guidelines, it is sufficient to share the mother's and father's names in the minor's passport application form. It is not mandatory that both parents' names be mentioned on each other's passports.
  • For a minor's passport, either both parents or at least one parent must have a valid passport. Only then can a minor passport application be submitted.
  • On the passport appointment day, both parents must be physically present at the PSK/POPSK.
  • If either parent is living abroad, then additional documents must be submitted to confirm the consent of both parents.

📄Important Documents

  • Parents' passports (Original and photocopies).
  • Child's Birth Certificate.
  • Child's Aadhaar Card.
  • Parents' Aadhaar Card (additional documents)
  • Annexure D - Consent of both parents.
  • Annexure C - Self Declaration when the application is submitted by a single parent.

✅ When neither parent has a passport

  • If neither of the parents has a passport, then, as per the guidelines, at least one parent must obtain a passport first before applying for a minor's passport.
  • Therefore, one parent must first apply for and obtain a passport. Only then can they apply for the minor's passport.

📝Note:

The process is not available under the Tatkal category and can only be submitted under the Normal category.
